Collagen Treatments

Collagen has many uses in Dermatology. Not only can it be used to reduce the appearence of fine lines and wrinkles, but it can also help with acne scarring and lip enhancement.

“How does the procedure work?”
Injections are placed just beneath the skin’s surface to implant the collagen to help replenish your own natural collagen to even out wrinkles and acne scars. It can also be injected into the lip area to make lips appear fuller and more even.

“What areas can respond to collagen?”
Collagen can improve crows’ feet, worry lines, frown lines, deep smile lines, vertical lip lines, facial scars and cheek and other depressions in the skin.

“Will I see results right away?”
Results can be seen immediately, usually after the first treatment. There is no down-time, and other than a little short term redness at the sight of injection nothing is visible but the smoother, more youthful appearance to your skin. Just like your own natural collagen, injectable collagen will eventually breakdown, however results usually last between 3 to 6 months.

“Are there any risks?”
All medical procedures are subject to certain risks. Thousands of men and women have been treated with collagen for wrinkles and contour problems. There have been more than 500,000 people treated with collagen since 1976. There has been a very small incidence of side effects or problems associated with the use of collagen. Physicians at Coast Dermatology will discuss with you all of the risks associated with the risk of collagen at the time of your consultation.

“Is Collagen right for me?”
Before using collagen, every patient must have a patch test done. This determines if you are sensitive to Collagen. The test is performed on your forearm and the patient should monitor the site for 4 weeks. The site is then evaluated by the Dermatologist, and if no reaction occurs you can have Collagen that same day.
